Meyer's
Cocktail
What is
a Meyer’s cocktail?
At our clinic we offer " The Meyer's
Cocktail", an intravenous vitamin and mineral protocol developed
by John Meyer's, MD., a physician in Baltimore, Maryland, in the 1970's.
The cocktail contains magnesium chloride/sulfate, ascorbic acid (vitamin
C) pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), B complex, and hydroxocobalamin
(B12). We
can augment the original cocktail, depending on the person's health condition,
with such things as amino acids, glandular extract, homeopathic preparations
to improve your health and sense of well being.
What does a Meyer’s cocktail do?
The purpose of this intravenous mineral
and vitamin protocol is to improve fatty acid metabolism, provide energy,
and introduce antioxidants into the body. These nutrients are involved
in hundreds of biochemical reactions, yet most people are deficient (at
least, relatively) in one or more of them.
The cocktail is indicated not only for maintenance of
health, but may also benefit those with chronic fatigue, PMS, depression,
muscle spasms, asthma, hives, allergic rhinitis, congestive heart failure,
high blood pressure, angina, ischemic vascular disease, acute infections
and senile dementia. The Meyer's is designed to boost energy levels and
improve the immune system. It is especially good for supporting the adrenals
during time of stress.
One of the best reasons to utilize intravenous vitamins
and minerals is to bypass a faulty digestive system. People suffering
from IBS, colitis, crohn's, candida or just plain malabsorption could
find great improvement.
Meyer’s Treatment Protocol
Our comprehensive intake includes an extensive
medical history, a consultation with the doctor, and a physical exam.
A health assessment is discussed and certain lab tests may be required
prior to any Meyer’s therapy.
Once it has been established that Meyer’s therapy
would be beneficial for your health situation, a series of treatments
are scheduled for one or more times per week. The infusion is given over
20 to 30 minutes while you sit comfortably in a reclining chair.

During the procedure, it is not uncommon to feel a warm
sensation over the whole body and occasionally a bitter taste in the mouth.
After the intravenous administration, some may feel a bit tired as the
muscles begin to relax. Most patients experience a boost of energy within
24 hours and this may last for several days.
Optimizing the Program
Many people who undergo Meyer's therapy also have a supplement
regimen, exercise regularly and modify their diets. It makes sense to
modify lifestyle to optimize health on as many levels as possible. Most
individuals use oral supplementation to compliment the Meyer's cocktail,
unless otherwise specified by the doctor.
